2 simple questions :

1) How to make DirectMusic use the sound card's synthesizer instead of the Microsoft Synthesizer and vice versa?

2) How to record the output from the synthesizer into a WAV (using DirectSound, I presume)?

Any ideas are welcome! Some code snippets would be nice too... (especially for the second question)
