it takes some protein from you but your protein balance is checked as well as your iron, etc, and bi-monthly you send a blood sample off to a lab for a complete work-up. If your numbers are too low, you aren't allowed to donate until they come up.

as for the rest, they don't use trans-fat oil any more. That stopped years ago and it's actually illegal in new york.
