Sub routine not executing

Is this not the way to call a stored procedure?

        Try

                .Connection.Open()
                .CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
                .Parameters.AddWithValue("@payperiodstartdate", payperiodstartdate)

I've commented out all of my sp's and can't find what is failing.
