Macromedia Fireworks, image fading, graphics gurus help needed :-)

Hey guys - just a graphics problem.

I want some way of fading an image into the background using Fireworks 4... for example, I know how to do gradient fills and all, but I want to fade an image that's already there (transparent background) so it fades nicely into the background... is it possible? If not, does anyone know of a prog that does it?
