Replying to private messages - automatic bold and italics thingie?

When you reply to a post by using the Quote button, you get this:

But when you reply to a private message, you get this:

Written by someone at date
Original message here

Where have the automatic bold and italics gone?
(You know that when the users are lazy they blame it on the administration)
