changing x-axis on charts

hey guys, im new to creating reports. im hoping someone can help me. im trying to create a report with charts. heres what my situation is:
i have a table with the responses to a survey. when the survey results are inserted to the table, i only enter the codes, not the strings (ie. ans1 = 0 or 1)
the problem is when i create my table, my x axis labels only display the number (because thats what i saved). ive tried opening the tables data sheet and changing the lables there. it changes it in design view but not in print preview view. any suggestions?
