I Quit!
Dropped the bomb at work today, oh what a feeling. Mixed emotions, actually. I really like the job, and my co-workers. But, here we are in 2007 - they allowed me to take .NET classes after I begged for literally 3 years, but when I ask when we're going to get a new Visual Studio environment - "we have no plans to do that". Mmmmkay then, buh bye.
So, I slump into being a depressed VB6, VBA, Office automation programmer with few current skills. Sending resumes out via the internet left and right. Hard to find anything without .NET requirements. And then, two in a row - blam blam - companies that are in the position my current company is about to be in (since I quit), a bunch of vb6 programs that need updating. Both places willing to let someone learn with the company. 20k more salary, and a good 10k more in benefits/time off.
My manager about keeled over as I'm generally a company man. Oh well, gotta look out for # 1. I'm headed downtown to the tallest skyscraper in the city and I couldn't be happier. It's gonna be tough to show up for the next two weeks. They want me to train the brand new network guy (who I had to teach Active Directory to *gulp*) vb6 and vba. Yea, good luck with that. I told him to just not accept any requests for modifications, my stuff works, what they have is what they get. F 'em. 500 million dollars of work coming in the next 6 years that needs databases and programs. Don't know what you got till it's gone.
Thanks for listening. Pretend you care. I love you guys.
Here's to us!
Who's like us?
Darned few, and they're all dead!
