Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition Access Database Synchronizer
Has anyone used the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition Access Database Synchronizer with any success. I dl and installed this tool from Microsoft, but have yet to get it to connect.
I am using WinXP Pro and Access 2000 SP3 on my desktop, and Windows Ce 5.0 with CF2.0 and SqlCe on my mobile device.
I cannot find the Sample Wizard for starters, so I could not connect using Iexplorer with PC name at port 1024 (http://pcname:1024/. I even disabled the firewall and AV, still no luck. The service seems to start when it syncs the PDA, but no ability to PUSH or PULL data from Access db into SqlCe.
The files were installed here:
Code:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition\v3.1\Sync\Access
It says the sample app can be loaded onto the PDA, but the file sqlce.access.sample.PPC.wce5.armv4i.CAB says it is not a valid WindowsCe executable... ***!
When I try and run the Sample C# app included source, VS 2005 says it cannot open the DataStore... ***!
Other than the info available on Microsoft's website, I have found little information on success stories or troubleshooting tips.
I need Access support until the conversion of the desktop app is completed to .NET and Sql Server. But that is at least 6 months away.
Can someone offer some hope for this tool, or suggest a resonable workaround to get my handheld Sqlce data back into my desktop Access db?
This is totally insane. Microsoft could have done better IMHO.
Please help....
