Hi,

Can anyone point me in the right direction with this question?

An isotropic elastic circular cylinder of radius a is fitted inside a rigid cylindrical case of inner radius a. The contact is perfectly smooth, so that there are no tangentail traction T per unit area over each end. Assuming that Poisson's ratio is positive, evaluate the strains and stresses in the cylinder when:

i) T>0
ii) T<0
iii) What difference would it make if Poisson's ratio were negative?
