Hello, my name is Matt I am new here.

Anyways I had been reading up on a good way to do this project and I had a couple of questions.

I set up a sql server locally through a network and here is what I am planning to do: have a huge amounts of install software on the server, I want to make a website where users can go to the website, sort through all the available programs to install, be able to filter them by genere, etc. (I wanted to make a database where you can add programs to it, and the path to the actual install .exe will be stored as well, so then you can go in and add a description, version number, program name & icon, etc. and then when browsing programs it will basically brows through the database and when a user selects a program and clicks a button or something it will execute the link through the network and begin installing the program) I also wanted to be able to log (if possible) who has what programs so when they come back to the website it will let them know if there is an update to a software that they currently have.

Anyways I was planning to use VB.net for this project and have been reading up on dotnetnuke as well which may save some time though i'm still figuring out how to get it set up. Is this possible to make this project using vb.net and dotnetnuke? Does anyone have any advice for me? I was also considering the possibility of using an activex control for the website but I don't know if its possible for this project. Thanks any help is greatly appreaciated!
