Hello,

I'm deciding to start learning Vb .NET, mainly because I want to start building window-based applications and maybe later on web-based applications.

When I was younger, probably around 12-14 yrs old, I used to use Visual Basic 3.0 and 4.0 everyday. I played around with it for about 2 years or so. Now I wouldn't say I learned a whooole lot, but mainly the basics. I knew simple concepts such as using If and else , Do / Loop routines, using .bas files and calling sub routines, and making menus with Alt commands etc. Being so young, I probably didn't get too far as really understanding the language itself, at most I was still probably leaning toward an intermediate programmer by age 14.

But then I stopped. I totally stopped because I didn't really have any use for it. I basically tried self-teaching myself through examples of works, online documentation, and not a SINGLE BOOK!!!! To be honest, I was young and immature, programming AOL Punters and AOL Chat tools (this involved some API, which led be to become familiar, but not understanding everything). Then I started to became interested in Web pages. I started learning HTML , playing around with Adobe photoshop, Flash, and then eventually Perl. I've been programming Perl for about 2-3 years now and I would consider myself Intermediate / More advanced then the average.

Now I want to start moving on to Visual Basic again. I hear that Vb .NET is the way to go and that I should start with that. First, before downloading I want to know some good books I can use to start learning. I probably would consider myself a beginner so anybook for the "newbie" will be best for me.

Any recommendations on Vb .Net books??

Thank you,

Bobby
