Simply connecting two PCs [HELP!!!]
All I'd like to do is to connect this PC and laptop together. I've gotten a crosswire cable, and here's the step-by-step list:
1. Get crossover cable, pay lots of money for it
2. Plug into LAN cards on PC and laptop
3. On desktop, set IP address to 192.168.1.101, subnet mask to 255.255.255.0, default gateway to 192.168.1.101
4. On laptop, set IP address to 192.168.1.100, subnet mask to 255.255.255.0, default gateway to 192.168.1.101
Should work, shouldn't it? They just can't see each other. I've tried accessing them as
\\192.168.1.100
and also tried pinging. They don't show up in the Network places either.
What am I missing?
