Hello there,

I'm sitting here wondering why I can connect certain things over the intenet that and I can't with others. All right I'll give you a detailed description of my connection to the internet and I'll see if you can offer any answers to me.

I'm connected over a Lan, through a proxy and firewall to the internet. There are numbers of others cpus on this lan. So When I run certain programs such as ICQ/Zone/Mplayer they seem to run fine. but when I run mIRC and others they don't seem to run at all.

My question is what sort of technologies do these programs use could please answer me please? I believe they use SOCKS4 or 5 and HTTP proxy but thats as far as i can go. I haven't seen a VB application that can do the same as these programs (ZoneFriends/ICQ/Mplayer) but if there any other with free source I've love to look at them.

Its upsetting that theres no documentation on how these programs actually connect to the internet over lans, but if someone knows how they do please let me know.

Thanks
