How do I switch to another running app (like alt+tab) and paste the text I have set to the clipboard from within my program?

The function I'm looking for is in many ways similar to the Xfer button the multimedia keyboards that use the Touch Manager software from Mediascape have, except their software only transfers results from the calculator.
