I am starting a new project to go with my website and need one or two people to help. No money involved upfront, maybe and actually should be some $$ on the end, but we are talking about down the road. If you are interested in sports and want to code something that would be used by thousands than you might be interested.

First I will say flat out that my progamming knowledge has gone down the drain the last decade - I have started to work with code again in the last month and its coming back in leaps and bounds, but still not where I need it to be.


The project that I am working is for a fantasy sports site. I am in the process of setting up an online game. The actual part of the code to run the game should not be so hard, basically just has to pull a value from the database and based on the point system give it the proper value for the game.

The basic outline would be as follows

- there would be multiple leagues and players, so setting up customizations for each (scoring systems, layout of certain items, what content the user sees on his/her screen, etc etc) based on cookies and password protection

- java based real time scoring for the player to see updated scores as it happens

- easy control system for administration - being able to shut down permissions to add/drop players at a certain time - then starting them back up at another time.

- light amount of flash to spruce up the front page (nothing heavy - don't want to slow it down to much)

- the single most important thing to be done right is the draft system - its used only once, but a bad draft system will keep the users from coming back more than anything else

- has to have the ability to have public leagues and private leagues

- look at throwing in a chatroom and/or message board for each league (could just tie into the vbulletin system we already use)

- few other misc items

The biggest difference between what I want to create here and what already exists on the net is that throughout the development process we will have some of the biggest names in the fantasy football community on the net involved. This will be made from the beginning the way that the fantasy sports fans want. Every free game on the net (and this will be a free offering - money in the end will come from advertisements and sponsers) has been developed by programmers with out really checking on what the end users wanted.

I am going to gear the first version towards football and want to launch operational early next summer. Changing bits and pieces of the code after that should not be to hard to make it work well with baseball, hockey, basketball, Bundesleague - any sport.
