The Doors were the essence of Rock n' Roll. Poetic, improvisational, on drugs, out of control.
Nirvana was like that, too.
I never got a chance to see either one of them, but I've listened to enough of their live recordings to know that when they were bad, they were really bad, but when they were good, they were absolute genius.
Nowadays, The Doors and Nirvana are more like my sentimental favorites, I don't really wear that stuff out and most of the stuff I listen to now is more current. Nowadays, you see a great hard rock band like Incubus or Korn and they totally kick ass and watching a great hard rock band kick ass is a bitchin' thing, but I'd trade in all those ass kickin' shows just to have seen The Doors or Nirvana one time.
