This is really starting to drive me nuts....I can't install the .NET framework at all on Windows 2000.

What have I tried?
1. Running dotnetfx.exe from the Windows Component Update CD...(this is the install file). This unpacks the files, and then gives the error "Microsoft .NET Framework Setup has failed. If this continues, please contact Product Support."
2. I tried copying the file to my hard drive and running it; same problem.
3. I tried downloading the Framework redistributable from MS's site: it's the same file, and it gives the same error.
4. I downloaded the SDK from download.com: same error.
5. I went to windowsupdate.microsoft.com (finally got around Access Denied...) and downloaded like 20 security updates and such...The only thing left there to download for this computer is the .NET framework, which downloads and then promptly fails.

What haven't I tried?
1. I haven't tried installing in Safe Mode (in a thread a while back, Thinker said Safe Mode didn't allow the installation of .NET, or something like that...I dunno)
2. Reinstalling Windows. There's got to be a better way.
3. Something I haven't thought of yet that I hope you'll suggest to me...!

Additional Information
1. I'm running Windows 2000 (5.00.2195) SP 2
2. I do meet the system requirements
3. The first time I run the install file after I restart, I get past the point of the error. It starts to install iisadmin or something, but it gets like 2% and stops. The program isn't frozen completely (I can still interact with it; I can click cancel to exit it and such). I let it sit for like 10 minutes and nothing happened.

I read up on that, and I cannot seem to generate the log file...I run the program with the right parameters and such, but the log file doesn't seem to appear anywhere....

Well, I think that's everything there is to know.... Argh! So baffling....Thanks for any help, as always
