    Microsoft?

Just wondering what you think about Microsoft's (and thus our) future.

Personlly, I think that the world of computers would take a massive blow if it lost industry standards

I agree... what's that got to do with Microsoft's antitrust case?

Just like if Intel went out of business the computer industry would have some big changes if MS went out of business.

The monopoly is bad, yes, but this talk of Windows being discontinued or whatever is silly and does way more harm than good.
    I'm bringing geeky back...

It is very good to have competition between companies. The problem occures when their are to many products and not are all supported. Intel and AMD keep each other on their toes so we get lowered prices, and faster chips. But the thing with them is that they can be used anywhere, they are both are supportes just as much as each other.

What M$ has done is killed the competitor. Not that its a bad thing, its what business try to do, but as a result, M$ can make ****ty products and charge anything they want, and we are almost forced into buying it.

What I would like to see in the future is more OSs but ones the can be compatible with each other, so if you have Bindows and I have Pinux it doesnt matter they both will work togethor.

    FUD runs rampant.

This is very true, and another reason we should break Microsoft's choke hold on industry growth.

Just like if Intel went out of business the computer industry would have some big changes if MS went out of business.
I don't think MS is in danger of going out of business, but I am quite sure that if they did, there would be many many good changes. (BeOS anyone?)

Intel will no longer be the industry leader when the 64bit CISC chips hit the market. So if they were to go out of business, it would be a foot note and a rise in prices, but no great loss.

The fact that Intel owns but doesn't distribute (AFAIK) the 64bit RISC Alpha chip, that is a great loss. One we should all morn.

if you have Bindows and I have Pinux it doesnt matter they both will work togethor
And the fun thing here is, Linux, BeOS, Solaris, MacOS, they all try and keep themselves open to their ancestor, Unix, making it easire to port between them. And... well... I think I'll let someone else explain this point:
