To use RDO, go to Project > References and add the Microsoft RDO object library to your project.

RDO comes in two types, you can use RDC (Remote Data Control) or RDO (Remote Data Object)

To use RDO with any type of database, you must have an ODBC data source connected to that database. Without ODBC, you cannot work with RDO.

RDO is similar to DAO, only the objects and methods have different names, like the DAO Workspace is an RDO Environment and so on.

Since RDO was meant to work with non-Access databases, it makes use of different types of cursors that you need to be familiar with.

My personal advice is you go for ADO instead of RDO. ADO uses only 5 basic objects and is much faster. Also it is less clumsier and easy to work with.

The reason why I think I need to use RDO is because I need to output an SQL search result into an External text file. I have not been able to find out how to do this through ADO or any other method besides RDO. Does anyone know of a different method - hopefully easier then RDO?

Well, it seems you have to email me. I have sent this code to 3 people now, and you are the fourth. The code uses RDO to print reports in MS Word documents. You can modify it to work with ADO.
