.NET News - Karl Moore Announcement

    Dear Friends,

Good Afternoon! Karl Moore here. Hope you're all keeping tip-top!

Well, I'm posting this mail message because I'd like to let all my friends in the forum know that my new book is coming out tomorrow! I've just received my first few copies from the publisher and I'm exceptionally pleased with how it's all come together.

To be frank, I couldn't have done it without the help of a number of key people -- especially those that read my tutorials on the VB-World network of sites and sent e-mail prompting me to get my ass into gear and start scribbling. So I did -- and this 570-page book full of .NET knowledge and completely fresh jokes (no, really!) is the result.

It was here in the forums that I also asked for technical reviewers - and found myself Richard Costall, Ray Ellison, Erik Giggey and Donald Carter, all of whom made it to the credits.

Eighteen months ago, I thought about writing this book. Twelve months ago I started it. Eight months ago I restarted it. Three months ago I was still perfecting it. Two months ago, my editor was removing all the libellous jokes. One month ago it hit the presses - and tomorrow, it hits the shops.

The official description of the book can be found below, but if you've enjoyed my work, my articles on the network so far - I urge you to snap up a copy. You'll find it informative, you've find it funny, you'll find it incredibly blunt and realistic at points -- but you'll love it and they're only printing 5,000 in the initial run, most of which have already been distributed.

Here are a few links if you'd like to purchase a copy... ( please )

    ... and here's what you'll get...

"Karl Moore’s Visual Basic .NET: The Tutorials provides new programmers and hardcore developers alike with all they need to get up and running with the latest version of Visual Basic. Split into eight humorous and dynamic tutorials, the book covers many key, real-life areas of .NET clearly, in the shortest time possible.

Among other things, Karl Moore shows you how to create a fully functional database application in just three lines of code, uncover the one secret that opens the world to Web services and learn how it can seriously boost your productivity, build interactive Web sites using Visual Basic code, and build applications (in minutes) that can run on everything from mobile phones to microwaves. You'll also learn the top ten tips you can’t afford to live without, how the latest object-oriented programming techniques can rocket you to guru level, how tapping into the book's code library can help you handle all your common programming tasks, plus much more.

If you’re new to programming, you’ll be given the full tour of Visual Basic .NET and be taught everything from the ground up – and in the quickest time possible. If you’re coming from Visual Basic 6, you’ll be shown exactly what has changed, before being presented with a clear training plan that will take you straight to the top, fast.

Karl Moore’s Visual Basic .NET: The Tutorials brings to the .NET industry its first true "career in a book," consistently presented in a style trademarked by Moore’s online tutorials and live radio shows, a style that is humorous, interactive, and above all, easy to understand."

Thank you - everyone - for all your help and effort. I know this ain't no Oscar award and I'm no Julia Roberts (well, on Saturdays, perhaps...) - but I'm really overwhelmed by the community in this place and even though I don't plan to make any big bucks on this book, I do hope it fills a slight gap in the market for something that perhaps wasn't there before -- the hole that you guys made me realise was there.

Or not there, if you see what I mean.

Anyway - thanks for everything and I really appreciate your support

    ~ Karlos

ps. on a *completely* different thread, the decision has been made to stick with the existing forum layout rather than recreate it all with the VB-World Network revamp. So the forums stay just as they are... well, hurrah and hujjah! :>

Let me be the first to congratulate you Karl! Good work!

If I ever jump onto the .NET bandwagon, I'll look into getting a copy!

Hmmm, I wonder if I can find it offline in Canada here...
All contents of the above post that aren't somebody elses are mine, not the property of some media corporation.
    (Just a heads-up)

    ;)

You are very kind... I'm so flattered. Yes, the Amazon reviews (just seen 'em!) have been really positive and I've already received a lot of personal feedback.

    I love y'all!!
