e-mail application

i'm starting to put together an application that will automate mailing of files to clients on a daily basis. i was originally intending on doing this through Outlook 2000, but i am starting to wonder if it would be easier to do it directly in vb6. can you easily send email using the default mailer on a local computer? ideally, i would like to send email directly to my mailbox at my isp, but if it starts to get over my head, i will be more than happy to use the default mail client. any thoughts?
