CPU temp
hmmi want to overclock my CPU however i have a problem my CPU temperature without overclocking are in the high 40's currently my fan rpm's are about 5400 rpm. Should i opt for a new heat sink? CPU fan? what should i do short of watercooling to bring my CPU temp down?

You're on a serious budget there, if you're running stable, just forget it...although at those temps, that chip isn't going to last 5 years like you expect it to...

Hell no...waaay too much risk there...
Got a 39cfm fan on my heatsink (Alpha PAL8045) and 4 Panaflo 24cfm case fans (two intake, two exhaust). Antec 34cfm fan in the hard disk cage (how else do you think my IBM ran for 8 months ) and Panaflo 24cfm in the power supply with the Antec stock grill removed.
All fans are 80mm.
Surprisingly not that loud.

how much did that alpha heatsink cost you? do you think that a new heatsink may help me with my high temp woes? right now i have no idea what kind of heas sink i have, although it is made of aluminum

Most likely a DP5 or somit
I wouldn't get the Alpha I would get the newer Thermalright AX-7, its not only cheaper but better, but it wasn't out when I got my Alpha
And get a decent 80mm fan...anything 30 to 40cfm will be quiet and cool well
Or the Mechatronics 53cfm if you can find it...good noise level, high airflow, and RPM sensing.

fans are cheap i picked up one to cool my case (which usually is in the low 30's) here in town for $10 canadain cools great and is quite, i also got another one form school, it is louder and doesn't cool as well but i have that as an intake fan in the lower front, all it really cools is my sound card and modem (which don't need it anyways) but it keeps the air flowing.

Apparently fits fine from what I read...
Shim can never hurt, if one is cheap, go for it. Shim is a good way to prevent crushing your CPU.

Shims don't affect temps at all, they are just safety precautions

You need to tell your parents that you work for your money and you can do whatever the **** you want with it. Well of course not in those words but you get my point.
Anyway..tube of AS3, a shim, an AX7, an 80mm, and a little patience and your set.

HA! then after i get my computer taken away (they won't use it either if they do that thanks to a little virus i wrote that can be activated from anywhere ), then i get to pay for university all myself, and i get fed dog food for the rest of my life. HA! i think i will just give them the money, getting my computer taken away alone is worth that much

Well instead of acting threatening you need to sit down and talk to them about it, because that is f**ked.

well i agree with them, if i don't save up for uni i am not going to go which would royaly suck so a very very large percentage of what i make has to go towards that. Otherwise my future doens't look so bright
