Sheesh! First they are the big, badguys that won't let go of
anything.....then it's just a ploy to whipcrack Linux. These
sumbitches would gripe if you hung them with a new rope.

I think anybody that's being hanged is likely to be a little miffed, whatever the age of the rope.

The author(John Viega) challenges the notion that 'many eyeballs' are a surefire solution to the problem of creating secure code.

Running a corporation in an open source world
" We won't use the GPL for anything anymore. It is far too frustrating to deal with; it is ambigiously worded in places that make it just too risky for a company like us..." -- Shawn Gordon, founder and president of theKompany.com, producer of a variety of open source and other software for Linux and other platforms.

The Microsoft Shared Source CLI Implementation
The Microsoft® Shared Source CLI Implementation is a file archive containing working source code for the ECMA-334 (C#) and ECMA-335 (Common Language Infrastructure, or CLI) standards. These standards together represent a substantial subset of what is available in the Microsoft .NET Framework. In addition to the CLI implementation and the C# compiler, the Shared Source CLI Implementation contains a cornucopia of tools, utilities, additional Framework classes, and samples. It will build and run on the Microsoft Windows® XP and the FreeBSD operating systems.

GNU Operating System
A production version of the free GNU operating system is likely to be available by the end of this year, according to the president of the Boston-based Free Software Foundation (FSF).
"Linux is a kernel, and now we have our kernel, which is an alternative to Linux, and they both work in the context of the overall GNU system, as the kernel alone won't run without the rest of the system," -- Richard M Stallman

Linux Startup Issues a Plea for Help
MandrakeSoft, in an attempt to reverse a financial crisis, is relying on two programs it launched recently to bring in enough cash to keep the company alive. The appeal asked users to contribute to a Mandrake Linux Users Club and Corporate Club, in which members receive special privileges such as discounts on products and direct download access to Mandrake servers.
MandrakeSoft claims that over 2,000 users have joined the club, each paying $5 per month. Costs for corporate memberships start at $2,500. The company did not indicate if any corporate memberships had been sold.

I agree with Microsoft. I don't mind giving out code to help fellow programmers, but the code that helps put food on my table needs to stay mine
Aww screw it. I didn't really want to fool with it anymore anyhow.

IBM's SashXB 0.9.9 Released
SashXB is an open source application environment that exposes native functionality to JavaScript. It's ideal for web developers with HTML and JS skills who want to write full-featured native applications, as well as experienced programmers who'd appreciate the convenience of rapid application development. It uses a host of other open source projects, including Mozilla, GNOME, Glade, and Gdome. SashXB programs are called "weblications" and can be installed and uninstalled locally or from the web.

Red Hat bitten by Linux's low cost
Red Hat's search for a business model that works in the world of freely available, open-source software has been difficult. Judging by the company's sliding sales and slumping stock price, it's unclear whether Red Hat has found it yet.

Linux Chicks
Linux girls break free
LinuxChix was founded three years ago in the United States by Deb Richardson. Linux is a free, open-source operating system, meaning its use and development is not restricted by copyright laws. LinuxChix is not exclusively for women but is actively welcoming to women rather than just passively neutral, says Vesperman. "Deb started it partly because she was sick of the teenage boy, locker-room mentality of a lot of Linux groups. She knew that it was chasing her away from Linux groups, particularly online, and felt that she couldn't possibly be the only one," says Vesperman.
