    Angry MS Critical Update

I am sooo mad!!! the MS critical update poped up asking me if I wanted to update my system about some error they found and I did... and now my whole PC is messed up!!!

first of all when I stat my pc it takes about 30 secons just on the the Windows Logo screen, then about 20 seconds to load up the user log in dialog, then about 2 minutes to load up the desktop excluding the icons and the system tray.. those take up about 1 minute each.. and for simple things like Start, and clicking on my computer it takes about 30 seconds...

    so you can imagine!!

System resore didnt work... Defragmenting/checking the drive for errors didn't work.. so now I"m stuck with a pc slow as a Pentium running at 65Mhz

    any suggestions?

What CPU you got running there...

    Version of Windows....

    Service Pack number.....

Win2k boots slowly under SP2, but then rockets along once your on the desktop.

Had a similar problem upgrading Win98 with friggin .net upgrades, ran like a one legged cat.....

Jesus Emo you didn't Our company refuses to support XP or have an XP machine connected to our network....

Hmmm loaded a clients system, Server Win 2k Prof, three PC's XP, and they seemed to be running ok. Didn't install any service packs to the client machines, but added SP2 to the server. Might have something to do with MS's way lame new security system...

Sorry can't help you on this one, except to suggest low level re-format and a Win2k install...

My machine + XP = Good Machine
    My machine + 2000 = Good Machine
My machine + ME = Bad Machine
    My machine + 98 = Bad Machine

    now

Compaq + XP = Bad Machine
    Compaq + 2000 = Bad Machine
Compaq + ME = Bad Machine
    Compaq + 98 = Bad Machine

I guess combining a compaq with ANYTHING results in sort of the same fashion as if you were to multiply anything by 0, in the numbers case you always get 0, in the compaqs case you always get a crappy machine
