Linux: IDE CD-R SCSI Emulation?!
Hi all,
As you all know, I have SuSE Linux 7.3 Personal Edition set up, and my CD-R is IDE. It says before it can be used, SCSI emulation must be enabled. The device name is SR0, if that's any help to anybody. How would I go about setting it up? The manual says to edit rc.config using YaST1, but I don't know how to do that. I know how to load YaST1, but that's as far as it goes. And yes, today is my first Linux day.

your best bet is to manually edit the config file, i find that YaST is a bit to user friendly and you can't always do what you want with it, you should type at a command prompt
and then navigate your way to there and then use a text editor like VI or Emacs and then edit the file that way.
the reason that you have to emulate scsci is that you can't have burners as IDE but linux can emulate it, to burn cds you are better off using a graphical burning software such as toast
hope that helped a bit
Some people have told me they don't think a fat penguin really embodies the grace of Linux, which just tells me they have never seen a angry penguin charging at them in excess of 100mph. They'd be a lot more careful about what they say if they had.
