Hi there, i have a project that makes use of a databse, the application uses the database to pull out different information. I need to know how to back up the database whilst it is open, do i have to shut it down first?

i have tried to copy the file but i get an error message "Access Denied" or somthing like that....

If you have any answers then let me know, Rohan West

I'm not really good with databases, but if you want to copy it then i would suggest first you close it then make a copy and then reopen it...and i'm sure all this can be done at one click of a button.
Sorry that i wasn't much help,

    Question

Do you really need to back up the whole database? Perhaps you can get by with just backing up certain tables. That way you can have a pre configured duplicate file on your disk, open a connection to it and use update sql to copy the relevent info across.

In my expirience it is better to back up the database before you process anything (incase something you need is overwritten with new data).
