    Hey! What's new with this jdk1.4? Or is java just putting out a new jdk to compete with Micro$oft .net framework. Also any of you guys know anything about compilers for Java that compile into native code rather than platform independent byte code? I heard that they are out there(BulletTrain and others) from a friend awhile ago when he was running JPython.

    Its got some new Swing components... updated the look and feel for latest windows... "Performance Enhancements"... but the bit i'm most interested in is the hardware acceleration in Java2D, finally we may be able to get some half decent Java games!

    i wonder if they're finally goning to implement those tearable jmenus its been "supported" since 1.3 (maybe even 1.2) but not implemented

    i hope they support the classic windows look b/c XP is uckin fugly

    sun releases a new version of java every 18 months, the release of version 1.5 is already schduled (18 months from now)
