email containing &nbsp ???

A friend of mine has gotten email with $nbsp occurring half a dozen or more times, usually at the end of a sentence.

Does anybody know what this means or what causes it?

It should be   meaning a non-breaking space. If you use them instead of normal spaces the software treats everything as one big word.

in html it means a non-blank space. The email was probably originally in html and then converted or something.
