About winsock and/or other connections to the internet

Could some one please point me in the direction of where i can find some good tutorials on winsock or other ways to connect to the interent using vb?

The professor in my vb class said that our final project will be dealing with a project that we can use to talk to someone else through the interent....and i guess winsock would be involved....please help.

go to planet-source-code and you will find many apps using winsock, download one of them and try to figure out how it works
