Using the Internet Transfer Control (Inet)

This is probably a very stupid question, but can I use this control to FTP files between windows PCs and UNIX systems (either direction). I have done file transfers in the past by producing an FTP config file and call Windows' FTP.EXE silently, but I was wondering if this control could be used to make it more efficient and controllable.
If so, can anyone explain the various steps that are required to do a file transfer ?
