DirectX 8.0
I have been doing VB programming for a year now and have decided that I would like to get into game programming. Is DirectX 8.0 the best way to go?? If so, or if not, where can I find out about it?

Yes and No.
If you want to start with 2D (which I recommend) you must use DX7.0. It is included with DX8 though. If you want to move on to 3D, you can use 8.

(Just a heads-up)

that's cool....where would be a good place to start (names of books, web sites, etc.)?? I really like to play games but I have no artistic ability at all. Do you know of any places to go to find characters and stuff like that??
Also, what types of games can you create with directx?? I enjoy shooter games such as Quake, Unreal Tournament, and etc. Could i create stuff like that??
Sorry to post so many questions, but like I said....it's very new to me.

I looked at the samples that came with C++ for DirX8 and found them totally incomprehensible. Is directX limmited to the C++ environment or can you use it in VB? If you can use it in VB I would like to know where tutorial info can be found too!
Thanks
