    Red face UML Class diagrams

    Hi,

i have to start my first major project in the next couple of days, and we need to make proper UML class diagrmas, i could just draw these out, but my handwritting is appaling, and if they were printed out they look a lot neater.

so does anyone know of a program that if you enter in all of the methods and variables it will make them into a class diagram, or has anyone got a templated sort of thing i could use.

    cheers

Some people have told me they don't think a fat penguin really embodies the grace of Linux, which just tells me they have never seen a angry penguin charging at them in excess of 100mph. They'd be a lot more careful about what they say if they had.

    Cheater

    Two suggestions:

    1. Ask Mark what program he uses to draw UML diagrams
    2. Get someone else in the group to draw then out instead

I've had a look around, and the only UML modelling things I can find are 30 day trial ones. Don't know if that's any good to you, but if it'll do then try here:

i am sure that evil Ian has some ideas

i think that i might set up a template in word to do it, but if someone finds something better then i will use that instead

I'll be brave and ask Mark tomorrow what he uses to do the UML (or make evil Ian ask him ). Mind you, it shouldn't be that hard to do in Word

We use togetherJ at uni for UML diagrams. Its written in Java and runs quite slowly but works fine. I think the demo version restricts you from saving pictures but the good old print screen button works!

I never made UML diagrams. It's like flowcharting, i never had the time. Couldnt you use (i think it's called Visio)? When i was in school my friend used to flow chart his COBOL programs with it and it came out pretty good.

With Visio(depending on what edition you have) you can
create network, software, database and web diagrams. Design
high level LAN/WAN network topologies. Diagram directory services hierarchies. Document software projects with UML diagrams. Automatically map websites. The list goes on and on.......

but standard version of Visio 2002 costs $200 ($160 after rebate) with Pro costing $460 ($425 after rebate). TogetherJ is pretty cheap (free if you use the trial version) but you need at least 128MB RAM (recommended 256MB) to run.

cheers Mrs Kensington, i will give it a go, but you are right about it being very slow

Dilenger: thanks for the visio thing but i don't think from your description it will do quite what i want it to do, , but thanks anyway

Pix : so you don't feel left out

well does anyone have any ideas of what i can use to create UML class diagrams ??

i tried with Micro$oft word the other day, and it takes too long and it is too difficult, so any more ideas ??

Haven't had a go with bluej yet, saw it in class the other day and wasn't sure if I liked it or not.

I got a very strange email back, he must've been drunk or something 'cos it didn't make any sense. Will have to try plan B and ask him in class
