ussually if you test it in your ie window it will be debugged there, because if there is an error it will say error on line something, and then you can go back to that line and sort out the problem

There's a halfway decent one that some MS products install (and hide). MS Script Editor. Launch Word and look under Tools->Macro for it (if you have Word).

I'm guessing that you don't have Visual Studio. I use Notepad to write my html/javascript and the debugger in VS to debug.

In Nutscrape type javascript: in the Location field to get a useful list of script errors unlike IE's completely hopeless ones.
