I have a password protected Word 97 document that needs to be unprotected. The last guy that was here decided it would be a nice thing to do before leaving. Is there any code, or freeware program out there that I can get to break this password protection?

I haven't tried this yet, but it might work. Try opening the document in a different Word Processor like Word Perfect.

you can always rename the file to a .txt format and grab the text that way, takes time but it works. I don't think word protected docs are encrypted, but I could be wrong about that.

What do you mean it didn't work?
What happened? What are the steps that you took?
IT's not going to be in a foramtted format like in Word. It's going to have a lot of extra crap that Word uses. what you have to do is look for the text in the file and copy/paste into a new document.
