    ME is not for ME

I have a simple Client Server Application using some third party controls as well.

I made the Setup Program using Package & Deployment Wizard. It installs fine on Win95 and Win98 clients but gives problem in Windows ME

When i try to install it in Windows ME, It copies VB runtime files and asks for a Restart of machine to update system files (as it does in all other cases) but even after i restart it gives the same message while installing that files are out of date and it needs to restart (every time) and does not go ahead with installation.

What could be the reason that it is not able to update system files ???

Take a look at the Run/RunServices/RunOnce registry keys in the registry. It may be just not removing the setting from there.

Anyway I'm running ME here and its working just fine.
Granted it tells me its updating configuration files everytime I boot, but it doesnt actually do much so its real quick

Windows ME should have the VB runtimes included, right?

I'm not too familiar with ME, but does it have system file protection, which won't let you overwrite system files that came with the OS?

I have books for sale: "MCSD in a Nutshell" and "VB Distributed Exam Cram" - PM me for details. Will also trade for a decent ATX Pentium 2 MB/CPU/RAM combo.

Thanks all for giving replies to my post...

Now the problem has changed a bit... Somebody suggested me that i compile the program and create the package on a ME machine which i did and bingo when i installed it on another ME client it worked without any problems...

BUT and that;s a big BUTT !! In the machines that i had previously tried to install (the compiled/package made in Win98), it is not installing and saying that cannot find Setup files after it copies initial 8 files (which are 7 in case of win98 package)...

All confused i am !! can anybody help....
