And this is easier than making part of a Form Transparent.
You need a mask Image to be assigned to the MaskImage Property, then set the mask color.
For example, make an Image with the portion you want to make transparent in black. Assign it to the MaskImage ( or is it MaskPicture? ) of the control. Then set the MaskColor to 0000.
The black part of the Image will become transparent.
Hope you got it.

I think what he means is can you make a textbox be translucent, like if your app was open and it had a textbox you could see your desktop through the textbox but the text itself would be opaque. What I would do iflash is go download ActiveSkin you can do a whole lot of things with it very simple I attached a pic showing transparency, and it isn't because I'm running XP it will be transparent on 9x machines also.
I think I was asleep when I replied to this thread earlier.
I didn't read the second line, and thought it was about making a custom control transparent.
Sorry about that.
Making a Text box's Background Transparent? Well, not that easy.
Lets see, if some body can come up with some work around.
The last option is writing your own TextBox Control.
Don't forget to post it if you do so.

autobot, where did u get your copy of win XP. Did u buy the original version or a pirated oine or downloaded off the net. Don't u need some kinda activation from the net to be able to use it ???
ALSO, your recommedation for ActiveSkin Is absolutely GREAT!!!
THANK YOU
Thats the kinda control i wanna get, which also comes with samples and the wonderful skin builder, i guess this is the best to to improve on the old boring vb standard form GUI. Anyway, u should've mention this control earlier man!
anyway thanx
If you or anyone else has any cool activex controls pls tell me
don't be selfish ok???
Your more than welcome for the information, and I paid to be in the Whistler/XP beta program and I recieved several different builds of the OS on cd-rom and the final beta as a download. And yes you need a valid serial number that upon installation XP will send your hardware information and your serial number to Microsoft for validation. Here is a picture of one of the crappy cases they send with it
AmPrat, you can go do a search for it at something like google.com, there're tons of web sites that has that for downloading, but i think you can only download the shareware version since some sites charges for it. Anyway, one of the sites is http://computing.vnunet.com/Download/1121251
it takes a while to learn to use the whole thing since it's so advanced and supports cool animation. But, it looks cool
