"Unable to get the value property of the checkbox class"

This code works in windows 7 but not in windows 10, they are both using Office 2007.

oXLSheet.Shapes("Check Box 26").ControlFormat.Value = xlOn

I even tried

oXLSheet.CheckBoxes("Check Box 26").Value = 1

but it still does not work. I'm stumped.

note: object twice is not a typo
