Did you ever(or those with kids, do you remember ever) just sit back and think, I can't wait to have kids?
I never thought I would feel like that, but lately, that's been in my head. I just think about what my kids would be like, and it makes me happy.

Kids are the most wonderful, horrible, exiting, boring, incredible, difficult things in the world. I was so glad I had them...and I'll miss them when they move out!

Then why is teen pregnancy such a horrible thing??

Because most teenagers don't have the financial or psychological capacity to deal with children of their own.

Having Children
I reckon that having kids causes a chemical to be released that effects the brain in such a way that makes you think that having kids was a good idea!
I've known many people who were heavilly opposed to the very notion of kids. Then one day they ended up having them and they were transformed, saying things like "I can't imagine my life without them" and "It's so great to have kids". It's like some sort of incredible biological brainwashing function.
Why else would someone, normally so rational, be totally overwhelmed with babies? It's totally illogical.
I think when people become broody, it's an accidental early release of this chemical.

Actually, Simon, I think you're right.
There is also the embarrassment factor, however.

Being serious for a minute,.....ok then...
I didn't want kids, never in a millyun years...was adamant that I wanted to do "things", didn't know quite wot, but "things"....
Didnt want to see my life consumed by children, looking back at 40+ wondering where the heck the last 20 years went, knowing all the while that I'd busted my Ar*se to put cash in the house & food on the table and realising I was nearing old age without having done my "things"....
I got 'caught' as they say for my first kid......
When my daughter arrived, "Things' turned out to be pretty much bull**** and looking back now ? the emptiness I used to call a life is pretty scary !
Perhaps the 'chemical' got to me too... Don't get me wrong, I love my space, doing things I wanna do.... but for me ? I think having kids changes your values fundamentally, it makes you realise how unimportant "things" are in the grander scheme.....

When you have children you can re-use all your old jokes and they think they are funny!

Having kids is great as long as you actually want to be a proper parent to them. Those people who have children just because they think it's about time they did, or because it's in vogue, don't seem to get anywhere near enough pleasure out of them. Instead, they resent the money they have to spend on them, resent having to get babysitters when they want to go out four nights a week, resent having to clean up, etc...
My children are fantastic and I love 'em. It was my son's fourth birthday yesterday, so I managed to indulge in one of the side-benefits of fatherhood: birthday cake. Yum.

Second time around...
Its like being a kid again for a second time, enjoying all the stuff 'adults' are supposed to have grown out of !
Seeing the world through children's eyes is fascinating.
My little boy spends half his life at top-speed...
Imagine, running EVERYWHERE !!?!?
I get knackered just thinking about it but to him, it's new, adventurous, exciting, because he can run, he does run....
such a shame we adults ever lost that kind of verve !

Definitely. We had fourteen 3 & 4 year-olds (plus one almost 2 year-old) charging through the house and garden for the birthday party on Sunday. Full-speed, full-volume. Good, hectic fun.
Children are also a bloody good excuse to go and watch all of those cartoons at the cinema. I'd have felt a fool going to watch Shrek without my children as an excuse...
