Visual Studio 6 Installation Problem

I am having a very big problem - Is someone able to help please as I cannot be the only one with this headache !

After running the setup for Visual Studio 6.0, it bombs out at the end while "updating the system settings". The following messages come up :

1) "VISDATA caused an invalid page fault in module MSVBVM60.DLL"

2) "ACMSETUP caused an invalid page fault in module MSVBVM60.DLL" and sometimes

3) "ACMSETUP caused an invalid Page Fault in KERNEL32"

followed by "Setup was unsuccessful, please run again"

I have run the setup on three different PCs, all with Windows98, I have followed Microsoft's KB articles "How to prepare for a clean installation of Visual Studio 6.0" (Q248347), "Visual Studio 6.0 Installation Tips and Procedures" (Q248332) and "Visual Studio 6.0 Installation Notes Part 1-7 of 7" (Q217091-7).

What now ?

2 things:-

1. Do you have a permanent net connection?
2. Did you install DCOM as recommended by the instllation program?

If you answered 1. NO - 2. YES, try the install again, but DON'T install DCOM. That's how I got around similar problems.

I encountered that error past few days. Try re-install Windows 98.

Hi, Richard here.

Some feedback to :

gfk - I have not been asked by the installation to install DCOM and I do not select any on-line related items from the setup (such as Studio Analysis, etc). Also, I have not got a permanent net connection.

ferdzm - I have re-installed Win98 on two of the machines, one by choice and the other by force as that machine crashed for some reason (It looks like the Registry was currupted). In both cases the problem still occurs. The funny thing is VB6 was installed and running fine on that PC until it crashed - that's when my headache started because I am busy with a project which I need to complete.
