What the fu*k is that
I am using sympatico high speed for about 3 months. Now while browsing the internet, the connection stops for some seconds and then starts again. I see that there is no light blinking on the modem. It even happens when I click on a link or when it should be doing something
does my system have some problem or the modem got a problem?

It's called bursty. It is a phenominon on DSL, and doesn't happen as much as on cable.

They come in different flavors. Cable can be faster than DSL, and vice versa. It depends on what service you get, and how much they charge you for.

Either way, they are both much faster than dialup or even ISDN.

I like it where I am.
2mbit/0.5mbit cable, $40 a month. Very reliable, very little sharing.
Supposedly, my city of 170 000 has a cable network that can support Manhattan. Who'd've guessed?

I just thought of getting the @home connection. I just want to know that will I have to pay for installation even if I know how to install the network card and how connect the ISP?
Is there any kind of wiring that the company will have to do and I will have to pay extra?

K from what ive heard (i still have dial-up, yaya shut up) Sympatico's DSL isnt shared, and its speed is more or less constant. Whereas Cable's speed varies a LOT, but its top speed is far above DSL. Whether you get the max performance out of it depends on a lot of factors, some of which are as trivial as how many people in your neibourhood use it.
You just proved that sig advertisements work.

ok here is the jist. if you have 2 phone lines you can get rid of one and close down the dsl, then you can get cable and pay one price a month which is usually lower than DSL and the extra phone line. so in the long run you will pay less for cable than you would pay for the line and DSL.
when you install cable they will have to run the cable to where ever your computer is, then they install the nic (if you don't have one) then they setup the modem and make sure you get on the net. they also check the condition of the line for continuity, make sure it has no shorts or static. then you will be set. then you could setup another computer off that one and network them together and get cable access with 2 computers instead of one and only pay one price.

I have just one phone line and one computer
Do they run the cable from my phone to my computer or do they run from somewhere else to my computer?
At this, I am able to use DSL and my phone at the same time but what about the cable?

It's the same coaxial cable that your cable TV decoder uses. If you have cable TV. You can plug your cable modem or your cable TV decoder into it, it's the same cable connection. Usually you get another coax line for your computer though, so people can watch TV while you're using your cable modem

isn't it possible just to split the line again? Like I have more than 1 TV on one cable line....

I'm pretty sure it's possible to just split the line but I can't say for definite. Try it

the only problem with that is they put a different filter on the computer line as to the Tv line.
