Using vb6 to open outlook and send an email.

Hi there folks! I am working on a program, and need to figure out how to get it so if a teacher has a question they can email me. I have read that it is impractical to make an email client using vb alone, but could use outlook to send the email. Since the teachers all have outlook it makes sense.

Basically I just need to figure out how to get my prog to open outlook, open a new email, put my email address in the recipient, and the subject of the email to be something along the lines of "Question".

Does anyone have any experience using outlook with vb6. The version the teachers have would be 2007 or 2010.

    Thanks!

For what you want you do not need to use Outlook specific code, you can use MailTo, which will work with any installed email program.

    Code here:

Re: Using vb6 to open outlook and send an email.

there are many ways to send emails from any computer to any recipient
    mailTo as mentioned above
    cdo.message
    vbsendmail
search in this forum on any of the above

you do not need to display outlook, to the user, to send email, it can work in background

if you really feel you should use outlook, read the faq thread at the top of the Office development forum, on how to automate office applications

search in the office development forum for similar threads, i am sure there will be hundreds

what makes you think your teachers need some additional email sending program or will be prepared /allowed to install on there computers? most teachers use email templates and contact lists to send to whoever they wish, without having separate applications for each recipient
i do my best to test code works before i post it, but sometimes am unable to do so for some reason, and usually say so if this is the case.
Note code snippets posted are just that and do not include error handling that is required in real world applications, but avoid On Error Resume Next

dim all variables as required as often i have done so elsewhere in my code but only posted the relevant part

come back and mark your original post as resolved if your problem is fixed
