Serial Mouse question (using diff port)
Im using an old pc with 2 serial ports - a 9 pin joystick style one, and a 25 (i think) pin one. The 25 pin one used to drive a modem, but not any more. the 9 pin one was connected to a mouse, but the port is broken. i want to use the 25 pin port with the mouse. how do i do this? its a ps2 mouse, which came with a ps2 to 9 pin serial adaptor. i have a 9 pin to 25 ´pin adaptor, which physically fits both the mouse and the pc. i just need to change some setting somewhere!
do i just swap the irq settings around between the 2 com ports? do i fiddle with the registry? do i reinstall the mouse drivers? do i right click on my computer, choose properties, and fiddle with something there?
amusingly, this is a danish-windows powered machine, so its not as easy as it would be if i were back home (in the UK)
Any help gratefully received!
thanks,

Wow, that is a really old computer. PS2 is even being phased out (with USB).
If you're lucky, you can swap the connections on the motherboard. There might be two ribbon cables going from the case to the physical ports. Hopefully, you can swap the two.

(Suprised i got a reply so quickly - thanks!)
I'm not sure which part of the pc is broken - theres a chance that that wont work as its that part of the motherboard which is broken!
Surely there is a way in software?

There is, but since I haven't used serial devices for several years, I couldn't tell you how.

you can not hook your mouse up to the db25 port. even though it is serial it won't work. if it is the board then you don't have much choice. you can do like Arien said and change the cable to the other one, since you have 2 db9 in your computer, and another one that is the db25. or you can try to change the com setting under device manager to a different com port.
