Don't say you like programming then, Say you're a FireMan, or you work with underpriveliged children or something, or even better, you enjoy putting out fires for underprveliged children.

Well I don't think its programming that turns girls off, its when your a little "overzealous" about it in conversations. I'm guilty of doing that everynow and then too.

Stereotypes
Psychological Analisis
Mental Linking
Programming -> Computers -> Geek (I hate that)
Her brain takes this and relates it to you and comes up with some sort of guy who knows about computers. Not bad. Then her brain starts the guessing game. And in most cases comes up with your typical computer geek stereotype. (Grr!)
Solution
Mention programming as casually as possible. Kind of sneaking it in to conversation. Or don't mension it ontill things are working out well.
(NOTE: This is all based on observation and experience. So this my not apply in your case.)
Good Luck!

overzealous - Overly enthusiastic

I've never had to admit to being a programmer, If someone asks me what I do for fun I don't say programming, stop saying you program for fun, programming isn't cool, if someone asks you why there's a load of programming books say that its what your'e good at and then change the subject and talk about her.

If you tell most males or females that you find programming fun you should probably expect to have to pick their jaw up off the floor. Not everyone finds programming fun for somereason.

Just tell the girls your a Computer Consultant..which is cooler than saying you are a programmer. Also alot cooler than being a real estate agent or an Accountant.

Hmmmm...clearly Dennis has logged off
Ok no more posts from Dennis...clearly its late at night in the Trailer Park. So he has tucked himself into bed cradling his treach yourself vb6 book to his chest...dreaming only what geeky seppos could possible dream off. Aaaargh too frightening to go there!!!!!!!
Why is the seppos on this site seem to be all geeks...whilest the Aussies would appear to be typically bronzed Adonis like....Ok have now taken my hand off it...back to the real world
Have to join Paul282 in a few wee drams of black label, settled for red label last night...haven't convinced my boss...the creature from the black lagoon...too invest in the good stuff yet. Still bets the s**t out of that XXXX and Fosters crap.

because I know quite a few of them, and they are all jerks..
by the way, start trek sucks!
and mr. aussie, what happens if your house gets broken into...
you get a single shot if you even have a gun, my family gets more than ONE shot, with ONE gun...
