    How to increase the web speed

    A client has one internet connection, several PCs, therefore slow internet.
    The idea, modem to pc(1) to switch to many pc
    PC1 has two nics, PC1 would be a Router and cache buffer for requested pages, this could increase the web speed ?
    What software does this ?

    I'm not aware of any situation at home, school or office where each device has it's own internet connection.

    Then define slow internet, what kind of connection to the internet is there? ADSL, CABLE, up- download speed?

    That doesn't sounds like a good plan. Traditionally you would setup a network like:

    Modem -> Router -> Switch -> PCs

    I would hope there is a firewall somewhere in there too. Depending on the hardware from the ISP, your client probably has a Modem/Router/Firewall/Switch built in. A computer should never be connected directly to the internet, that is not safe.

    Unless you are running some archaic LAN system, I am sure your LAN speeds are fine. I am guessing the problem is with the actual internet speed. You would have to talk to your ISP about getting faster speeds. What kind of internet do they have? DSL, Cable, satellite, fiber?

    i suggest you watch hak5 episode 718(www.hak5.org) in which they build a router with pc parts and open source software (smoothwall) It includes caching software.

    What you need is a web proxy, not a router. You could set up one of your PC to be the web proxy server and other PC's is configured to use it. You can Google for tutorials on building your own web proxy server.

    It is all pretty pointless for a small handful of PC clients though.

    Unless the people have some strange browsing habits, no network Web cache is going to do much good. There just won't be many cache hits.

    Simple solution.....get faster internet. We have 20Mbit broadband internet and it serves 3 PCs, a laptop and a couple phones quite nicely here.

    However, what you described in your OP is quite bizarre. You seem to be suggesting that you channel your internet from a PC to a switch then to other PCs which makes no sense. The PCs should be the end of that setup not the start. Is there some special reason for this strange configuration ?
