    Visual Studio.NET and Windows XP

Right... Windows XP IS .NET right?

Well when I installed VS.NET on WinXP RC1 it insisted that I install the .NET framework first. Huh? I thought it was already part of XP. I thought XP was BUILT ON the .NET framework!!!!!
Have I missed something here? Is the VS.NET installer just crap and ill informed? Or am I just loosing it? Find out next time!!

Next... VS.NET DOESN'T WORK ON WINDOWS XP!!!!!!!
The damn thing crashes on the splash screen every time I run it! I'm sorry but I just had to laugh at Microsoft...for about 10 seconds then I went on to being disappointed.

    It got uninstalled.

So. Anyone else got any comments they can add to this?
I would like to know if this was just a fluke or if they're just crap together. Is it worth me bothering to try reinstalling it? Or redoing XP perhaps. I have no quarms doing this except for the fact that I can't be bothered.

I am currently running WinXP RC2, with the re-released .NET Beta 2 and all is running fine. The only problem i ever have is when i try and use VB 6.0 ActiveX controls it locks up on wierd occasions. Now i didnt install VC++ or VFoxPro, i just installed VB.NET & C# so if you installed those, maybe they dont work well with XP.
As for XP being build with .NET framework, i havent seen any signs of this at all. IIS hasnt changed, no ASP.NET installed, .NET apps wont run with out the framework installed, basically anything in .NET doesn't seem to work. I thought it was build on .NET framework as well.

    NO !!!

There's gonna be another windows next year - windows.NET something about it being web based & the codename was blue something, I'll see if I can find it again.

But as for XP - that was the original idea, but it's been based on NT again.

Beta1 doesn't work with it, Beta 2 does

Um well kinda. Windows XP used to be called Whistler and was going to be called Windows.NET but then they changed their minds.

The release next year that you're thinking of is the Windows.NET Servers...the server OSes are gonna be called Windows.NET, the home OSes are gonna be called Windows XP.

Hum...shall have to get a copy of Beta 2.
Damn. Can't get into my brain's BIOS. Seems to be password protected.

I heard that the OS after XP is still not going to be fully ".NET Compliant" (whatever that means). Honestly, I think right now .NET is more Marketing hot air than a realized product.

I have books for sale: "MCSD in a Nutshell" and "VB Distributed Exam Cram" - PM me for details. Will also trade for a decent ATX Pentium 2 MB/CPU/RAM combo.

In every Microsoft's .NET seminar I went to, they always talk about .NET on Windows 2000, not Windows XP.

I think you can now order WinXP outside the US. Try:
