I *used* to have a 1x SCSI CD-ROM that only read CDs in caddies. Then I got bored, took a screwdrivers, and removed every circuit board, wire, and piece of metal. It didn't work when I put it back together, it just made grinding noises.

that would have been well expensive when you bought it. They were an insane price, esp. SCSI.

I have a BBC B and Music 500 synthesiser (that synth kicked the FM sound cards for quality for years )

    ...

Can I nominate my whole computer?

I think I got my PC about 4 years ago...

It was used (refurbished, whatever)- Probably another 2 or 3 years before I got it.

I use a Gateway anykey that I got from an old 386. It's probably 9 or 10 years old.

I used to use a 12 (at least) year old 5 1/4 floppy drive, but I took it out of my machine last week to put in a CD burner.

I still have an old Compaq III portable... Does that count?

The Anykey keyboard kicks ass, although it doesn't have the Windows key

    So?

I hate @#$%-ing Windows keys. I always hit them when I'm playing DOS games and crash everything. They're only for people who are too lazy to hit Ctrl + Esc for the start menu or Ctrl + F10 for the menu. What's the point, besides good old Bill getting his logo on every keyboard made since 1995?

Dude! Stop trashing it! You can press Windows+E for Windows Explorer, Windows+Break for the Device Manager, Windows+P for Printers, Windows+F for Find....

filburt1, That's neat!, I've never pressed the windows key before. I thought it was one of those they put in to fill up the space like scroll-lock and that funny one top left of the board next to number 1.

    I couldn't live without Windows+E.

    Northgate keyboard.

I have a Northgate OmniKey/Ultra Keyboard that was manufactured prior to 1990.

I will be sick when it is no longer usable. I do not know of a better keyboard.

It has the 12 functions keys on the left, which makes them handier to use, especially when you need to hold Ctrl, ALt, or Shift key while hitting the function key. You can hold both keys with your left hand and keep your right fingers on the "home Keys," making it easy to always have your fingers positioned for touch typing.

It also has 12 function keys across the top (the modern placement). These keys are programmable to be equvalent to Ctrl & Function, Alt & Function, or Shift & function.

It has the arrow keys in a diamond instead of an inverted T, which seems more intuitive to use.

It has a comma/period lock toggle. When set, the comma & periods keys are always comma & period, even when holding the shift key down.

It does not have windows keys. Perhaps I would miss them if I had ever used them. I do not know what they do.

These keyboards are still popular. I bid on a used one at eBay several months ago. I am worried that mine is going to wear out. The winning bid was over $220.00, and there were several bidders between $180.000 and $220.00. I might have bid $200.00 if mine was no longer usable.

I had one of the first optical mice, which lasted over ten years. I retired it when win 9x came along. The company was out of business and there were no drivers for it.

And there I was thinking the mention of hardware would instigate never-ending sexual innuendo involving Katie
