Thread: Wanna be in a programming team?

  1. #1
    Guest
I really want to make a programming group that consists of Artists, Coders, Idea Contributers, and maybe Web Master. It would be great if i can get one going because we can create some really good programs with the help of the team. I also have an idea for the groups name but i wot say unless i have enough people to start a group. The type of people im looking for are GOOD to EXPERT programmers because we will be working on pretty hard stuff, mainly games. I also need GREAT artists because the games or programs that we plan to make will have a great GUI. We also need some BETA testers and idea contributers because they are essential to improving programs. Maybe a web master because if this group can get sort of big, we can make our own web page and display our programs so we have something going there.

Anyways, if this sounds interesting to you then please reply to this post and also drop me a line with the subject "VB GROUP" at [email protected]

remember we need good people and not newbies at VB. If I get enough offers to people wanting to join then ill notify everyone that wants to join and officially start the group. I probably WONT be leader because im not that good at orginizing all this stuff, but i would like to be a programmer for the team, so also if your a good leader then please join. Thank you for anyone willing to join!

I'm the last person that wants to pee on your bonfire about this but...

I have been in several such teams or collaborations from this BB site in fact, and they never work out. Partly because you are wasting your time making games in VB, and the nature of email being as it is, people cannot communicate their ideas to eachother efficiently enough.

But far be it from me to discourage you, if you make a go of it then good luck to you, just don't hold your breath thats all!

Yeah I understand what you mean, I have been in programming groups myself but they didn't work out. I don't plan to make this into something big at all, I just want to make a game or two in VB with some people to maybe learn something new and have fun at the same time. I don't plan to have group meetings and all that stuff, I just want to talk to them occasionally to see how progess is going on what we are working on. It won't be one of those strict groups that have all these rules and such, and that they don't let you put ideas in, they just tell you what to do and you do it kind of thing. I just want like a 4 or 5 person group that ALL have equal say in what we are creating, and maybe we can complete a project together. Nothing big...

    Well...
I'm not a VB expert (quite far from that, actually), neither can I draw or make good web sites.
But, I'm in fact good at thinking, giving ideas, using math for solving computer problems etc.
I've done quite a lot programming on Texas TI-83 calculators, so I'm used to saving memory, use eficient code and (as I said) use math.
I'd like to test your game, and contribute with ideas.
If you're interested, get in touch.

ok great, im getting some replies. so far i have 2 or so webmasters and one other programmer (making it 2 total), but i still need an artist or 2. For all the people who replied so far, i greatly apreciate it, ill for sure let all you guys know if the group gets started. But the thing is about the webmasters, right now i wont need them unless the group gets sort of big, and we might start a web page to show some of our projects. But don't get discouraged, im sure ill end up needing webmasters. thank you again, and where are the artists??? =)

    also...

i forgot to mention that im going to upload my current project (without source, just exe) so who ever is intrested could have a look and see what i and maybe a future group will be working on. this game is in very early stages so if it doesn't look awesome, its because i only have the game engine down so far.

to have a peek at my game, go download it at

    http://www.geocities.com/hdem2/dq.zip

right now do not play the game with music because for some reason the enemies move VERY fast when you do. i'll have to fix that when i have time, but for now just leave the music box unchecked.

so if that game seems intresting to you and you want to work on it then join this group because thats gonna be the first project. thanks again

hmmmm for some reason the link doesn't work when you just click on it. if the file doesn't start to download then take away the http:// and just do http://www.geocities.com/hdem2/dq.zip and it should work.

I've been programming for two years, and have read 1500 pages of stuff about VB. I'm still pretty bad, but I'm keen to learn and I'd try to help as much as possible (I'd be a tester or a 'helping' programmer)

    My email is [email protected]

    Thanks!

    Exclamation

Secrecy is not going to help your cause !

I'm a Network engineer, a programmer and a professional project manager and I'm always in for something new (I'm not an artist) but I've seen these things fail too. Here's my advice

    1. next time you post a link make sure it works
    2. tell us who you are! These things fail because the people running them get busy elsewhere, how do we know you have the time to follow through with this. Obviously you can't prove anything by email but you should have a case.
    3. Do you have an Idea? you want to make a game? you want artists! what will you write? if it's graphics intesive in VB will you use DX7 or OpenGL? and do you need specific skills in these areas? does it even require fast graphics?

You may think I'm being a spoil sport but I think you'll find even very young people have time to spend but they don't have time to waste.

Every one wants to do something which is why they are reading this thread, but they want to know it's serious (yet fun).

(I've come home drunk more than once with these sorts of ideas If you can back up your case I'm with you, otherwise... I'll be at the pub (Isakaya here in Japan) )

well, thank you for your input. yes i understand about all you said, and i even asked for someone to be a leader for this group because im not that great at puting all this together. i just want to be head programmer or something and i will even take orders from someone that has better leading skills than me because they know what they are doing more than me.

as for being dedicaded, i really want to finish this game that im currently working on, and it doesn't use direct x or opengl, just plain old bitblt. but i do have a feeling this game can turn out great if we just have like 4 or 5 people working on it. i understand you being skeptical in joining, but you seem like you are pretty experienced at this types of stuff so i would gladly let you be leader if you wanted. a proffesional project manager sounds good to me.

as for personal info about me:

im 16 years old, i have been programing in VB for 3 years (on and off) and i have tought myself most of the stuff i know. i still dont consider myself an expert but i think im pretty good. i currently am working on a game called "Damien's Quest" (thats not going to be the final name) and i wanted help on it because 1 man creating a game is tedious work. So the idea of creating a group came along, i dont want something huge, just about 5 people would do great. to many people makes it hard to manage, plus we aren't going to be a corporation right? so i just needed about 2 programmer (i am one), 1 or 2 artists (none so far), and 1 or 2 writers/idea inputers.

so far i have been offered everything but an artist, so i just need and artist and we can start this small group. So as you can see, the first project the group will be working on is a game. i have posted the link to it but for some reason it won't work with the "http://" on it, i did post the correct link but for some reason it doesn't like it. so just take away the "http://" in the browser and do it again, it should work.

so Paul282, do you wish to join this group? also would you want to be leader of it and control how we do things? i don't mind as long as you know what your doing. you would have major say in what we do next so i think you will like it a little.

any artists out there?!?! its not going to be hard work, i need someone to make some sprites for me!! =)

I am very positiv to your idea. I would like to be a part of a greqat programming team. I know Visual Basic but I plan to learn C++. I am very familiar with all kinds of games so I could also work as a beta tester + idea contributur.

    Good Webmaster

Hi, I wouldn't mind being the webmaster. I could make it where communication between the group is organized and efficient for everyone involved. Also idea's could be posted on the site and voted for so we all have our say so. I have some great idea's myself. I would also like to beta test, and possibly create another site where others could find out about the game development and beta test also. With me as the webmaster you would also get your own sub-domain, development.gethelp2000.com or whatever you want. One other suggestion would be to email everybody in the development team daily to tell of our progress. I can make this work for everyone involved, and also could do marketing when the game is finished, so everyone involved would be paid for there work. I have many other idea's to make this an easier load for everyone involved, I know where to find alot of very good computer graphic artist, and I am sure they would be happy to help. Let me know!!!

well, i am not sure if i have room to fit one more person in. i am currently waiting to get in touch with 2 people about the group, and if they say they are in, it would make 5 people in the group. i want to keep this group to a small number so i dont know if i can accept one more person. the thing is though, these one of the two people are not replying to my messages, so i MIGHT have room for you. so all i can say is that i'll have to wait and see if those 2 are in or not. so ill post another message here soon, and ill tell you if there is room or not.

thank you for offering your help, it is greatly apreciated, but the group is going to stay small and managable. also, we will be programming for fun (i think) and not for commercial profit (unless we make something kick arse). i have also found a professional web master and artist, so the group probably wont need another one, but again i can't say for sure untill i get an answer from those 2 other guys.

so here's the deal, if one of those 2 other guys say they dont want in, then i have space for you, but if not then im sorry. ill keep you informed of what happens. thank you again for willing to help. you sound very enthusiastic so i'll try to fit you in ok?

ALSO please no one email me or reply to this post anymore. I don't mean it in a mean way, it is just the group has found it's members and is going to stay small. thank you greatly for anyone who has replied to this post willing to give their time and skills. i am sorry but i can't accept everyone.

Question Are you really very good?

It's usually the people who say they're very good, who are
average. The people (like me) who say they're rubbish ARE
rubbish, and the people who say they are good/confident are
    really good.

Are you sure you're VERY good?

Maybe you should ask them how many years they've been programming and what they can do etc... Saying "Im very good" means nothing
    Use
writing software in C++ is like driving rivets into steel beam with a toothpick.
writing haskell makes your life easier:
    reverse (p (6*9)) where p x|x==0=""|True=chr (48+z): p y where (y,z)=divMod x 13
To throw away OOP for low level languages is myopia, to keep OOP is hyperopia. To throw away OOP for a high level language is insight.

I've been looking all over for something like this! I have a bit of experience in VB and HTML, so I could help out with both the web page and the programming. I will do my best to accomplish any task you set me to, but I still have a bit to learn in VB.

I'm sorry but I can't accept any more people. I thought I posted a message saying this here, but I guess not. I really apreciate all your replies, I didn't even expect to get that many but the group has found it's members. It MAY need one more person if I can't get in contact with one of the people in the group, so if I do need one more person, ill check through this list and pick out someone that interests me. Thank you again for all the replies, but it is pointless to request to be in right now because I can't take anyone else. Sorry for anyone looking forward to being in.

    Exclamation Well...I try

I'm looking somebody with VB4 (32-bit) to get a partner to my team, Merrysoft. You can look my homepage at http://merrysoft.cjb.net

Currently I'm making quite a lot of programs, but I've released only one game and a skin to WinAmp as yet.
(and the game is in Finnish, though translating it).

The job would be easy, because I only need to get information of the program you will release, you can do anything you want (just add Merrysoft to the program name). Of course I test the program/game myself...

If anybody is interested, mail to me ([email protected])

I would be interested in joining this group. I do web pages, though it sounds like you have enough of those, I am a reasonably good vb programmer, though not the best for games, and I also do graphics. I am very good at logo's and splash screens, and can do GUI as well.

    Programming team

    Hey.

I think it would be a great idea with a programming team.

    The team should be:

    Programmers
    Graphics
    Designers
    Webmasters
    Etc.

    About making a game:

I think it would be a good idea, but remember. VB is not the most stable programming language.

And if we are going to make a game programming team, we have to use directx.

    Merrysoft...

Merrysoft have growed a little after I last time posted...Not much but still.

Homepages are growing, too, and the whole thing is getting a bit more professional (though, still not making money and products are made alone). Communication is one of the biggest problems, like I'm from Finland and other guy from Australia

Anyway, I still search for more programmers, more can be found at the site (click Contacting after entering to Merrysoft Homepage).

    Cool

    I think it's a cool idea.
I not a really good leader, though I have had some experiance. I'm an Ok VB programmer, I know it probrably better than any other language I know. I can draw and do graphics though I don't have any very good tools, PSP, POVRAY and some other freeware progs. I can beta test and I love to contribute ideas. I'm not really go in one area, but I'm good in many. I'd love to see how this turns out.

    Cool New programmer

    Hi MerryVIP,

I read your post here and I'm very interested in programming either applications or games (mostly applications because I don't have enough experience in programming games). Anyway can you give more details about the task the programmers you're looking for will do? how big will our group be?? what will it do?? so elaboration is needed.

By the way, I am a good programmer in VB, I programmed in VB for 4 years and have a 2-year experience in WEB programming (ASP, VBScript, JScript, not Art design). I think I can be a good use with use.

    The idea is very interesting.

    Hey,

There are too many e-mails here to read them all, so I don't know what's been said and all, but I'd love to join. I'm no expert, but I've had my fair share of vb-programs.
