Thread: Toolbars in Office Programs

    Question

I work at a senior high school that uses Office 97 and has a security program called Fortress to keep kids out of the hard drives. I've just recently become aware of a loophole wherein if the open the VB toolbar they can open the hard drives via the address text box in the toolbar. I also heard that it is possible to block toolbars from being displayed using a VB program. If anyone knows anything about this, I would appreciate help. Thanks.

I don't mean to sound rude but Fortress (in most cases) is a joke. My high school used it at one point in time (version 4...the most recent I think) and I had it bypassed and disabled in about 5 minutes. If you ahve anything to do with the security department of the school and would like to hear my two (ok...maybe 5 or 10) cents worth on the matter and how to help make it more secure then feel free to mail me.

    Wink no kidding

You don't have to tell me about fortress's security. I'm actually a newly graduauted student and I had quite the fun time with fortress throughout my career here, and as a result I got to know the media tech people and that's why I cam back to be of assiastance. However, getting new software approved is like getting teeth pulled, so I prefer the small miracles like disabling toolbars in office. But any suggestions of any nature are always welcome.

    Hello,
Just done a quick search on Microsoft and found this link
    http://support.microsoft.com/support.../Q170/5/63.ASP

I'm not sure it'll do the trick but it should give you some idea of what to do.

    Hope it helps,

Question using VB code from MS

Thanks for the address. That looks like what I want to accomplish, but I don't know how to implement it. The page itself is fairly cryptic about it. What I want to do specifically is make it impossible to bring up the "web" toolbar in Office programs. Thanks agian.

    Question

    Hello,
I think I've found a way for you to disable it without using Visual Basic but I can't quite get it to work properly yet, if you'll give me your e-mail address I'll send you what I've got so far.

    Hear from you soon,
    Desire.
