    Miniature home security robots

You're out on the town. A group of intruders comes to your house and breaks in. Oh no! Luckily, you bought an underpriced miniature robot. When they detect an intruder, it will try to shoot the intruders using a stun gun. Have more of those robots? Even better. They work as a team, signaling each other to the presence of the intruders. They can work out a way to nab the intruders or at least chase them out. As they take care of the intruders, one of them takes a picture of them and sends you the picture to you. They will also tell you what, if anything, they tried to steal. If the intruders left or were detained, they will conduct a search for anything that should not be in your house (e.g, illegal drugs, a regular bomb, or a source of radiation such as an atom bomb). They will send you a message telling you if they found anything that meets this criteria, and advise you as to whether you can safely return to your house.

B*gger the miniature cr*p! Full-sized home security robots are the way forward. In fact, don't restrict them to the home either. Send them out looking for trouble makers. If we could wrap these robots in human flesh then they could infiltrate the criminals hideouts too.

By the way, you might want to update your signature. Just a little out of date. I've heard that some Republicans are in denial but that's taking things a bit too far.

I think having the robot search my house for anything that shouldn't be there is an absolute must feature. I'd need them to hide my stash before the police turned up.

Might be cheaper and far safer in the long run to see if the doctor can prescribe some Xanax.

Why can't the robots prescribe it?

    Re: Miniature home security robots

Why can't the robots deliver it? That should work for both you AND the criminals. Some guys robbed the house of a lady I know. They found her liquor and proceeded to consume the lot. Eventually, they were too wasted to continue robbing the house, so they left. However, they left the bottles, too, so it was clear exactly where they had been drinking....right on top of a large container of coins. There was more value under their asses as they were getting trashed on cheap booze.

Robotic security systems are a great idea because they are a cool project that would be totally worth working on as a hobby. In practical terms: Being that skittish about everything is bad for your health. Damn shame if a couple tweekers busted into your house only to find that you had died of an anxiety-induced heart attack a couple days earlier. You'd probably win the "Buzz Killer of the Year" award, albeit posthumously.

One could probably find a way to protect the robots from accidental damage while keeping the whole security system cheaper than paying a company like ADT or Monitronics. Heck, maybe those companies will offer such a system.

I know of a great book that tells you how to build a robot to be your girlfriend. I bet it can easily be modified to be a killer robot as well. The book also tells you how to grow your own potatoes.

And how to make glass. It's a pretty thorough book, though the title would confuse people.

    Re: Miniature home security robots

Several years ago I purchased a Bob dummy, brought it home, left it about 15 feet inside the front door, headed off for several hours and upon opening the front door say a man standing there. My firearm was half way out of my holster when I realized it was Bob. My son came home one night and actually tackled it. I asked him why? He said that he challenged it i.e. "How are you", no reply so he rushed Bob abd wailed away for several second until he realized, Oh a Bob Dummy.

PS Now I have five in my house

Why should there be something in house which needs you to lose sleep till you lose that thing and then lose some more sleep because you lost the one thing which caused you to lose your sleep?

I remember the movie Gods Must Be Crazy. How an empty glass bottle can bring about discord amongst a family of bushmen. An amazing insight and a great eye opener.
