    Unusual Compensation

As the title suggests; what unusual compensation have you received recently for mistakes, poor service or having to wait a long time?

    1. Cafe Ritazza (Manchester Train Station): offered me milk and Marmite instead of clotted cream and jam with a traditional English cream tea (they had no clotted cream and jam)

    2. Starbucks: added two extra shots to my coffee because I had a long wait (I didn't even complain about the wait)

    3. Italian Restaurant: I sent a steak back because it was cooked well done instead of medium; what came back was two medium cooked steaks, minus the chips and sauce which were originally on the plate

    4. In a pub: a free upgrade from a half pint to a pint of beer as they had no half pint glasses

    ... just

Not wierd but impressive: I was in carphone warehouse today changing my network from 3 to Vodaphone. I wanted to keep my number so the sales guy phoned up 3 for a PAC code. They asked to speak to me and then stalled me for 50 minuetes trying to keep my custom. The sales guy was so taken aback that he gave me a free protective cover for my phone. Not exactly earth shattering admittedly but given that it wasn't even Carphone Warehouse's fault and they were just trying to help I thought it was pretty cool.

    Re: Unusual Compensation

280+ quid compensation from United Utilities because a shared rainwater drain had leaked into my (and my neighbours) house foundations. In addition, they replaced shared and private drains / grids / soil pipes for myself and my neighbour for FREE, and cleaned up afterwards. My neighbour got 350+ quid because they used his garden / patio as a staging point for materials. He also made them more brews.

I've bought myself a Nikon P510 for Christmas (as well as booze - the VR will take care of the shakes)

Not sure what my neighbour's used his for. His wife has just had a lung transplant (still in Wythenshawe hospital) so I reckon he'll use it for a party when she gets out.

BTW, for the aware, my son (with crohns) got sent to Hope hospital, where they found a tangerine sized abcess / cyst against his spine. The surgeon went in and removed it together with the ruined remains of his colon. The surgeon said it was like trying to cut through wood because the tissue had hardened that much. Now, with a bag and ass sewn up the fistulas have vanished. He's no longer in danger of losing a leg through nerve damage caused by fistulas. Unfortunately he's carried on eating the same quantities he needed before the operation and now has to go on a diet...

Life can be really, really weird...

    Merry christmas everyone.

I was wandering through the member list, and found that old strange icon of a school bus doing a wheelie. I was wondering what had happened to SBD....and here he is.

    Merry Christmas to you, too.

My local still adheres to the rustic tradition of "The Queen's" - if, after dispensing a measure from an Optic, there's not enough left in the bottle for a full measure (i.e. the Optic only partially refills), the residue is given to the Customer as well as the full measure.
